Aventon – Bike Will Not Power On TroubleshootingUpdated 2 days ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot an Aventon e-bike that will not power on.

Use this article if your bike:

  • does not turn on

  • has a blank or unresponsive display

  • shows no signs of power

  • does not respond when pressing the power button

This article applies to Aventon e-bikes.

Stop troubleshooting and contact support if anything appears unsafe, damaged, overheated, or wet.


Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon model

  • photo or video of the issue

  • confirmation of whether the battery charges

  • confirmation of whether the display powers on

  • confirmation of whether the charger light changes colour

  • confirmation of when the issue first appeared

  • confirmation of whether the issue occurred after charging, transport, storage, water exposure, crash, impact, modification, or third-party repair

  • photos of visible damage, if any

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue riding if the bike shows signs of electrical damage, overheating, smoke, or burning smell.

  • Do not open sealed electrical components.

  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is powered on or connected to the charger.

  • Do not force connectors or plugs.

  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure.


What This Issue Means

If the bike will not power on, there may be:

  • a loose or interrupted connection

  • a battery issue

  • a damaged display or control pad

  • a damaged wire harness

  • a controller issue

  • visible damage affecting the electrical system

  • battery not charged

  • battery not fully inserted

  • battery switched off

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Confirm the Battery Is Charged

Connect the charger and confirm the battery charges normally.

Check whether:

  • the charger light changes as expected

  • the battery shows signs of charging

  • the battery has sufficient charge before testing

If yes

Continue to Step 2.

If no

If the battery does not charge normally, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

The bike may not have powered on due to a discharged battery.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 2.


Step 2 – Confirm the Battery Is Fully Installed

Ensure the battery is:

  • fully inserted into the bike

  • properly seated

  • locked in place, if applicable

  • switched on, if applicable

Retest the bike after reinstalling the battery.

If yes

Continue to Step 3.

If no

Reinstall the battery correctly and retest the bike.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely caused by poor battery connection or incomplete battery installation.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 3.


Step 3 – Hold the Power Button

Press and hold the power button on the control pad for at least 3 to 5 seconds.

If yes

If the bike powers on normally, continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 4.

If the issue clears

The bike may not have powered on due to insufficient button press time.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 4.


Step 4 – Inspect the Battery and Battery Connection Area

Inspect the battery and battery connection points for:

  • visible damage

  • dirt or contamination

  • signs of overheating

  • signs of arcing or burning

  • damaged terminals

Check the battery port and terminal area carefully.

If yes

If damage, overheating, burning, or arcing is visible, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

Do not continue riding or charging the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 5.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a poor battery connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 5.


Step 5 – Inspect the Display and Control Pad

Inspect the following for visible damage or abnormalities:

  • display

  • control pad

  • attached display cables

  • display connector area

Check for:

  • cracks

  • impact damage

  • pinched cables

  • loose connections

  • water exposure

If yes

If damage is found, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If no

Continue to Step 6.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose display connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 6.


Step 6 – Check Accessible Wire Harness Connections

Inspect accessible wire harness connections and plugs.

Ensure all visible connections are:

  • fully connected

  • properly aligned

  • free from dirt or grit

  • not loose

Inspect the harness for:

  • cuts

  • fraying

  • pinched wiring

  • visible damage

Retest the bike once completed.

If yes

If the bike powers on normally after reconnecting the harness, the issue was likely caused by a loose or contaminated connection.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 7.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely caused by interrupted harness connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 7.


Step 7 – Inspect for Controller Damage

Inspect the controller area for signs of:

  • overheating

  • impact damage

  • visible wiring damage

  • disconnected plugs

If yes

If no

If the issue clears

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

  • the bike still will not power on after these checks
