Aventon – E22 Throttle Error TroubleshootingUpdated 2 days ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot the E22 Throttle Error on an Aventon eBike.

Use this article if your bike:

  • Shows an E22 error code
  • Has throttle issues
  • The throttle does not return normally after use
  • The throttle feels stuck or damaged
  • The bike has throttle-related power issues

If you are unsure of your Aventon model, please confirm your model before continuing.

Stop troubleshooting immediately if anything looks unsafe, damaged, or if the throttle does not move freely.

Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • Order number
  • Aventon model
  • Photo or video of the E22 error code
  • Photo of the throttle area
  • Photo of visible throttle wiring or connectors, if relevant
  • When the issue first appeared
  • Whether the bike powers on
  • Whether the display turns on
  • Whether the throttle responds
  • Whether the issue happened after transport, storage, water exposure, crash, impact, modification, or third-party repair
  • Photos of visible damage

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue riding if the throttle is stuck, damaged, or does not return normally.
  • Do not open sealed electrical components.
  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is powered on or charging.
  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure.

What This Error Means

The E22 error means the bike has detected a throttle-related issue.

This may involve:

  • The throttle assembly
  • Throttle wiring or harness connections
  • The controller system

Possible Causes

Possible causes include:

  • Damaged throttle assembly
  • Malfunctioning throttle
  • Damaged wire harness
  • Damaged throttle connection
  • Damaged controller
  • Visible cable or connector damage

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Check the Throttle Movement

Press and release the throttle.

The throttle should return smoothly to its original position.

Check for:

  • Obstructions around the throttle
  • Stiff movement
  • Physical damage
  • Loose wiring
  • Visible cable damage
  • Damaged connectors near the throttle

If yes – The throttle is visibly damaged

Do not continue riding the bike.

Please contact our support team with photos of the throttle and visible damage.

If no – No visible damage is found

Continue to Step 2.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a temporary obstruction or connection issue.

Monitor the bike during normal use.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 2.

Step 2 – Check Whether the Error Remains With the Throttle Unplugged

Turn the bike off before continuing.

Disconnect the throttle connection if it is safely accessible.

Restart the bike with the throttle unplugged and check whether the E22 error remains.

If yes – The code still appears with the throttle unplugged

The issue may involve the throttle harness or controller system.

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If no – The code clears with the throttle unplugged

The throttle assembly may be causing the issue.

Please contact support with photos of the throttle and connector area.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely related to the throttle assembly or connection.

Monitor the bike after reconnecting the throttle only if it is safe to do so.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 3.

Step 3 – Inspect the Throttle Wiring and Harness

Inspect the accessible throttle wiring and harness for:

  • Loose connections
  • Bent pins
  • Worn cables
  • Pinched wires
  • Broken connectors
  • Visible damage

If yes – Damage is found

Do not continue riding the bike.

Please contact our support team with clear photos of the damaged wiring or connectors.

If no – No visible damage is found

Restart the bike and check whether the E22 error returns.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose connection.

Monitor the bike during normal use.

If the issue remains

The issue may involve the controller system.

Please contact support.

Step 4 – Check Whether the Error Continues

Restart the bike and test whether the throttle responds normally.

If yes – The E22 error still appears

The issue may involve:

  • The throttle assembly
  • Throttle harness
  • Controller system

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below.

If no – The error no longer appears

The issue may have been caused by a temporary connection issue.

Continue monitoring the bike during use.

When To Contact Support

Please contact support if:

  • The E22 error remains after completing these checks
  • The throttle is damaged or stuck
  • The throttle does not return normally
  • There is visible wiring or connector damage
  • The bike does not respond to throttle input
  • The bike has been exposed to water, crash, impact, transport damage, modification, or third-party repair
  • You are unsure how to safely complete a step

If the issue remains after these steps, please contact our support team and include the photos/videos listed below.

What To Send Support

Please send:

  • Order number

  • Photos of visible damage
  • Confirmation of whether the bike powers on
  • Confirmation of whether the display turns on
  • Confirmation of whether the throttle responds
  • Confirmation of whether the issue happened after water exposure, crash, impact, modification, or third-party repair
