Aventon – Lights Not Working TroubleshootingUpdated 2 days ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot lighting issues on Aventon e-bikes.

Use this article if your bike:

  • front light is not working

  • rear light is not working

  • both lights are not working

  • turn signals are not working

  • lights turn on intermittently

  • lights do not respond to the control buttons

This article applies to Aventon e-bikes equipped with integrated lighting systems.

Stop troubleshooting and contact support if anything appears unsafe or damaged.


Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon model

  • photo or video of the issue

  • confirmation of which lights are affected

  • confirmation of whether the display powers on

  • confirmation of whether the bike powers on

  • confirmation of whether the issue affects:

    • front light

    • rear light

    • turn signals

    • all lights

  • when the issue first appeared

  • confirmation of whether the issue happened after riding, transport, storage, impact, water exposure, modification, or third-party repair

  • photos of visible damage, if any

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue riding if visibility is affected by non-functioning lights.

  • Do not open sealed electrical components.

  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is powered on or charging.

  • Do not force connectors or buttons.

  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure.


What This Issue Means

If one or more lights are not functioning correctly, the issue may be related to:

  • the light assembly

  • the light harness

  • a connection issue

  • the controller

  • the display control pad

  • physical damage to the light or wiring

Depending on the model, the affected light may be:

  • the front light

  • the rear light

  • turn signals integrated into the tail light

Possible causes may include:

  • light not activated correctly

  • loose connection

  • dirt or grit inside accessible connectors

  • damaged light assembly

  • damaged light cable

  • damaged light harness

  • damaged controller

  • damaged display control pad

  • cracked light housing

  • cut or damaged wiring

  • impact or water-related damage


Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Confirm the Bike Is Powered On

Power the bike on fully before testing the lights.

If yes

Continue to Step 2.

If no

Power the bike on and retest the lights.

If the issue clears

The lights may not have activated because the bike was not powered on.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 2.


Step 2 – Turn the Lights On

Press the light button or the “+” button, depending on your Aventon model.

For some models:

  • press and hold the “+” button

  • or press the dedicated light button

If your bike has turn signals:

  • press the left or right turn signal button

  • the selected side should flash

  • after approximately 10 seconds, the turn signal may automatically cancel

Retest all lighting functions.

If yes

If the lights now work normally, the issue may have been caused by incorrect activation.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 3.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely related to light activation settings or controls.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 3.


Step 3 – Check for Visible Damage

Inspect the following areas:

  • front light housing

  • rear light housing

  • turn signal housing

  • visible wiring

  • accessible connectors

Check for:

  • cracks

  • cuts

  • pinched cables

  • disconnected wiring

  • impact damage

  • water exposure

If yes

If visible damage is found, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If no

Continue to Step 4.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose connection or minor interruption.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 4.


Step 4 – Check Accessible Light Connections

Inspect accessible light connections and harness plugs.

Ensure the connectors are:

  • firmly connected

  • properly aligned

  • free from dirt or grit

Reconnect any loose accessible connections and retest the lights.

If yes

If the lights work normally after reconnecting the wiring, the issue was likely caused by a loose or contaminated connection.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 5.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely caused by a poor connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 5.


Step 5 – Check Whether One or Multiple Lights Are Affected

Check whether:

  • only one light is affected

  • multiple lights are affected

  • all lights are affected

If yes

Continue below.

If no

Continue to Step 6.

If the issue clears

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue below.


Step 6 – If Only One Light Is Not Working

If only one light is affected:

  • inspect that light assembly closely

  • inspect the wiring connected to that light

  • inspect the accessible harness connection

If yes

If damage is found to the light assembly or cable, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If no

Continue to Step 7.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose harness connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 7.


Step 7 – If Multiple Lights Are Not Working

If multiple lighting functions fail at the same time, the issue may involve:

  • the controller

  • the shared harness connection

  • the display control pad

Retest the light controls and verify all accessible connectors are secure.

If yes

If the lights return to normal operation, continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by an interrupted connection.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 8 – Check the Display Control Pad

Inspect the display control pad buttons for:

  • physical damage

  • sticking buttons

  • impact damage

  • water exposure

Retest the light controls.

If yes

If the controls respond normally and the lights operate correctly, continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by temporary button or control interruption.

If the issue remains

Contact support.

  • the lights still do not function after these checks

  • multiple lights fail simultaneously

  • the light housing is cracked or damaged

  • wiring or connectors appear damaged

  • the display control pad is damaged
