Aventon – Throttle Not Functioning & No Error Code Present TroubleshootingUpdated 2 days ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot throttle issues on Aventon e-bikes when there is no error code displayed.

Use this article if your bike:

  • powers on normally

  • pedal assist works normally

  • the throttle does not respond

  • the throttle works intermittently

  • there is no error code shown on the display

This article applies to Aventon e-bikes equipped with a throttle.

Stop troubleshooting and contact support if anything appears unsafe or damaged.

Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon model

  • photo or video of the issue

  • confirmation of whether the bike powers on

  • confirmation of whether pedal assist (PAS) works

  • confirmation of whether walk mode works

  • confirmation of whether the display powers on

  • confirmation of when the issue first appeared

  • confirmation of whether the issue occurred after riding, transport, storage, impact, water exposure, modification, or third-party repair

  • photos of visible damage, if any

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue riding if the bike behaves unpredictably.

  • Do not open sealed electrical components.

  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is powered on or charging.

  • Do not force connectors or throttle components.

  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure.

What This Issue Means

If the throttle is not functioning and no error code is present, the issue may be related to:

  • the throttle assembly

  • throttle wiring

  • a loose connection

  • the controller

  • the display harness

  • physical damage to the throttle or related wiring

Depending on the model, the throttle may connect:

  • directly to the display

  • or through the bike’s wiring harness

Possible Causes

Possible causes may include:

  • loose throttle connection

  • dirt or grit inside a connector

  • damaged throttle

  • damaged throttle cable

  • damaged harness

  • damaged controller

  • damaged display harness

  • damaged display

  • throttle obstruction

  • impact or water-related damage

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Confirm the Bike Powers On Normally

Power the bike on and confirm the display operates normally.

If yes

Continue to Step 2.

If no

Refer to the “Bike Will Not Power On” troubleshooting article before continuing.

If the issue clears

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 2.

Step 2 – Check Whether Pedal Assist (PAS) Works

Test whether pedal assist still functions while riding safely.

If yes

Continue to Step 3.

If no

Continue to Step 4.

If the issue clears

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to the next step.

Step 3 – Check Whether Walk Mode Works

Test whether walk mode functions normally.

If yes

The issue may be isolated to the throttle assembly or throttle connection.

Continue to Step 5.

If no

Continue to Step 4.

If the issue clears

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Continue to the next step.

Step 4 – Check Whether Both Throttle and PAS Are Not Functioning

If both throttle and pedal assist are not functioning:

  • the issue may involve the controller or related wiring

Inspect visible wiring and connectors before continuing.

If yes

Continue to Step 5.

If no

Continue to Step 5.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 5.

Step 5 – Inspect the Throttle Movement

Press and release the throttle.

Confirm the throttle:

  • moves smoothly

  • returns to its original position normally

  • is not obstructed

Check for:

  • debris

  • dirt buildup

  • physical obstruction

  • visible damage

If yes

If the throttle now moves freely and functions correctly, continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 6.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by obstruction or restricted movement.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 6.

Step 6 – Inspect the Throttle and Wiring for Damage

Inspect the following for visible damage:

  • throttle body

  • throttle cable

  • visible harness wiring

  • display connection area

  • accessible connectors

Check for:

  • cuts

  • frayed wiring

  • cracked plastic

  • pinched cables

  • impact damage

  • water exposure

If yes

If damage is visible, please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If no

Continue to Step 7.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 7.

Step 7 – Check Accessible Connections

Inspect accessible throttle-related connectors.

Ensure all visible connections are:

  • fully connected

  • properly aligned

  • free from dirt or grit

  • securely fitted

Reconnect any loose accessible plugs and retest the throttle.

If yes

If the throttle now functions normally, the issue was likely caused by a loose or contaminated connection.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Continue to Step 8.

If the issue clears

The issue was likely caused by interrupted throttle connection.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 8.

Step 8 – Check for Ongoing Loss of Throttle Function

Retest the bike after completing the previous checks.

If yes

If the throttle now functions normally, continue monitoring the bike.

If no

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by interrupted connection or temporary throttle obstruction.

If the issue remains

Contact support.

When To Contact Support

Please contact support if:

  • the throttle still does not function after these checks

  • pedal assist and throttle both stop functioning

  • there is visible wiring or throttle damage

  • connectors appear damaged or burnt

  • the throttle does not return normally

  • there is visible impact or water damage

  • the bike has experienced modification or third-party repair

  • you are unsure how to safely complete any step

If the issue remains after this step, please contact our support team and include the photos/videos listed below.
