Aventon Abound SR – Battery Charger Failure TroubleshootingUpdated 2 days ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot battery charger issues on the Aventon Abound SR.

Use this article if your bike:

  • is not charging correctly

Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon bike model

  • photo/video of the charging issue

  • photo/video of any charger lights or error messages

  • when the issue first started

  • confirmation of whether the bike powers on

  • confirmation of whether the battery charges

  • confirmation of whether the display turns on

  • photos of any visible damage to the charger, battery, or charging port

  • confirmation of whether the issue started after charging, transport, storage, water exposure, crash, impact, modification, or third-party repair

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue charging the bike if there is heat, smoke, burning smell, melted plastic, or visible damage.

  • Do not open the battery, charger, or sealed electrical components.

  • Do not use damaged charging cables or connectors.

  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is charging.

  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure.


What This Issue Means

This issue means the battery charging system is not operating correctly on the Aventon Abound SR.

The troubleshooting process may involve:

  • updating the bike through the Aventon App

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Check Whether the Battery Firmware Has Been Updated

Open the Aventon App and check whether the battery firmware has already been updated to the latest version.

Also confirm the current app version installed on your phone.

If yes

Continue to Step 3.

If no

Continue to Step 2.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by outdated firmware or a communication issue.

Monitor the bike during normal charging.

If the issue remains

Continue to the next step.


Step 2 – Update the Battery Firmware Through the Aventon App

Use the Aventon App to complete the battery firmware update process.

Once the update is complete:

  • disconnect the charger

  • power the bike off

  • wait 10 seconds

  • power the bike back on

  • test the charging process again

If yes

If the bike charges normally after the update:

  • continue monitoring the bike during normal use

If no

If the update cannot be completed:

  • please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step

If the issue clears

The issue was likely related to outdated firmware.

No further troubleshooting is required.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 3.


Step 3 – Test the Charger Again

Reconnect the charger and test whether the bike charges normally.

Check:

  • whether the charger light behaves normally

  • whether the battery begins charging

  • whether the display powers on normally

If yes

Monitor the bike during normal charging cycles.

If no

Please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a temporary charging communication problem.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Further inspection of the charger or battery may be required.

Please contact support.

  • the bike still does not charge after the firmware update

  • the charger light does not behave normally

  • the battery does not charge

  • the bike does not power on

  • there is visible damage to the charger, charging port, or battery

  • the battery or charger becomes unusually hot

  • you notice smoke, smell, or overheating
