Aventon Abound SR – Tail Light Cover (Design Improvement)Updated 2 days ago

This article explains how to install the updated tail light cover improvement for the Aventon Abound SR.

This article applies to:

  • Aventon Abound SR

Use this article if:

  • you received an Aventon tail light improvement kit

  • your rear tail light cover requires installation

  • you want to add additional protection to the rear tail light area

This improvement is designed to help protect the rear tail light from accidental damage.

If anything looks damaged or unsafe during installation, stop and contact support before continuing.


Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon Abound SR model confirmation

  • photo of the current tail light area if needed

  • the supplied tail light improvement kit

  • a size 4 wrench

  • a clean workspace

Before starting:

  • power the bike off completely

  • ensure the bike is stable and secure

  • avoid pulling or straining the tail light wiring

Safety Warnings

  • Do not work on the bike while it is charging.

  • Do not force bolts, wiring, or connectors.

  • Do not pull on the tail light wiring.

  • Stop and contact support if anything appears damaged or unsafe.

  • Do not continue if the tail light wiring becomes pinched or damaged during installation.


What This Improvement Means

The Abound SR tail light improvement adds additional protection around the rear tail light area.

This helps reduce the chance of accidental damage to the tail light during normal handling and movement of the bike.

This improvement is precautionary and is intended to help protect the tail light assembly.


Possible Causes of Tail Light Damage

Possible causes may include:

  • accidental pressure applied to the tail light

  • impact while moving or storing the bike

  • strain on the tail light housing

  • improper handling around the rear rack area


Installation Steps

Step 1 – Remove the Tail Light

Use a size 4 wrench to loosen the two nuts securing the tail light to the rack.

Turn the nuts counter-clockwise and place the sleeve nuts aside safely.

If yes

If the tail light loosens correctly, continue to Step 2.

If no

Do not force the hardware.

Please contact our support team with photos of the tail light area so we can review the next step.

If the issue clears

Continue with installation.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 2 – Remove the Tail Light Bolts

Remove the two bolts holding the tail light in place.

Keep all hardware together for reinstallation.

If yes

Continue to Step 3.

If no

Do not force the bolts.

Please contact support with photos of the hardware and tail light area.

If the issue clears

Continue with installation.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 3 – Install the Protective Seat

Insert the tail light into the middle hole of the protective seat.

Ensure the bend of the protective seat faces towards the outside of the rack.

If yes

Continue to Step 4.

If no

Check the alignment and orientation of the protective seat.

Do not force the parts into position.

If the issue clears

Continue with installation.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 4 – Install the Tail Light Long Bolts

Insert the two long bolts from the kit into the two outer bolt slots on each side.

Insert the bolts upward and ensure they are fully seated.

If yes

Continue to Step 5.

If no

Remove the bolts and check alignment again.

Do not cross-thread or force the bolts.

If the issue clears

Continue with installation.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 5 – Align the Tail Light and Protective Seat

Align the tail light bolts with the two long slots on the protective seat.

The protective seat should wrap around the bottom of the tail light.

If yes

Continue to Step 6.

If no

Recheck the orientation of the protective seat and bolt alignment.

Do not force the assembly into place.

If the issue clears

Continue with installation.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 6 – Reinstall the Tail Light

Align the assembled tail light and protective seat with the mounting holes on the rack.

Use the size 4 wrench to tighten the two sleeve nuts clockwise.

After installation:

  • ensure the tail light is secure

  • confirm the wiring is tidy and not pinched

  • confirm the tail light remains properly aligned

If yes

Test the tail light operation.

If no

Stop installation and contact support.

If the issue clears

The installation is complete.

Monitor the tail light area during normal use.

If the issue remains
