This article explains how to troubleshoot 4G and GPS connection issues on Aventon mid drive eBikes with an ACU/ECU (Aventon Control Unit).

Before You Start
Please prepare the following:

Troubleshooting Steps
Step 1 – Pair the Bike to the Aventon App
Make sure the bike is powered on.
Open the Aventon App and confirm the bike is paired correctly.
If you need help pairing the bike or locating the bike QR code, please refer to the Aventon App User Manual.
If yes
If the bike is paired successfully:
continue to Step 2
If no
If the bike cannot pair:
restart the bike and phone
ensure Bluetooth is enabled
try pairing again
If the bike still cannot pair, contact support.
If the issue clears
The issue may have been caused by a temporary app or Bluetooth connection issue.
Continue monitoring the app connection.
If the issue remains
Continue to Step 2.
Step 2 – Update the Bike Firmware
Open the Aventon App.
Navigate to:
Me
More Settings
Update Firmware
Install all available firmware updates.
Keep the bike powered on during updates.
After the update:
restart the bike
reopen the Aventon App
check whether GPS and 4G tracking functions are working correctly
If yes
If the issue clears after updating:

Step 3 – Activate the IoT 4G Service
Open the Aventon App.
Navigate to:

More Settings
IoT Services
Activate the free IoT 4G service trial if it has not already been activated.
Check whether the IoT service status displays:
ACTIVE
If yes
If the IoT service shows ACTIVE:
continue to Step 4
If no
If the IoT service does not activate:
restart the app
reconnect the bike
try activating the service again
If activation still fails, contact support.

The issue may have been caused by inactive IoT services.

Step 4 – Run Optimise Track in the Aventon App
Open the Aventon App.
Navigate to:

Optimise Track
Follow the prompts to optimise your phone settings and app permissions.

Bluetooth communication
If yes
If Optimise Track completes successfully:
continue to Step 5
If no
If your phone does not support Optimise Track:
continue to Step 5 and manually configure permissions

Android Phone Permission Checks
Step 5 – Check Android App Permissions
On your Android phone:
open Settings
open Apps
select Aventon
Please allow:
Location
Nearby Devices
Notifications
Camera permissions if requested
Also enable:
Manage app if unused
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
After updating permissions:
restart the phone
reopen the Aventon App
check whether GPS tracking updates correctly
If yes
If the issue clears:
continue monitoring the bike connection

Apple iPhone Permission Checks
Step 6 – Check iPhone App Permissions
On your iPhone:
open Settings
select Aventon
Set:
Location = Always
Precise Location = ON
Also ensure:
Bluetooth is enabled
notifications are enabled
all Aventon App permissions are allowed
After updating permissions:
restart the phone
reopen the Aventon App
check whether GPS tracking updates correctly
If yes
If the issue clears:
continue monitoring the bike connection
If no
If the issue remains:
continue to Step 7
If the issue clears
The issue may have been caused by restricted location or app permissions.

Step 7 – Check Whether the Bike Location Updates Correctly
Open the Aventon App and check:
whether the bike location updates correctly
whether ride tracking updates correctly
whether GPS location matches the bike’s real-world location
If yes
If the bike location updates correctly:
continue monitoring the bike and app connection
If no
If the location remains incorrect or does not update:
please contact our support team with the information listed below so we can review the next step

The issue may have been caused by app permissions, firmware, or IoT activation settings.
