This article explains how to troubleshoot an Aventon mid drive eBike that shuts off while riding on ACU-equipped models.

Use this article if your bike:

  • powers off while riding

  • loses power unexpectedly while riding

  • shuts down during use

  • displays shutdown-related error behaviour

  • intermittently turns off while riding

If anything looks unsafe or damaged, stop riding and contact support before continuing.


Before You Start

Please prepare the following:

  • order number or proof of purchase

  • Aventon model

  • photo or video of the issue

  • photo of the display screen

  • details about when the issue first appeared

  • confirmation of whether the bike powers back on

  • confirmation of whether the battery charges

  • confirmation of whether the display turns on

  • confirmation of whether the motor engages

  • confirmation of whether the issue happened after charging, riding, transport, storage, water exposure, crash, impact, modification, or third-party repair

  • photos of any visible damage

Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue riding if the bike shuts off repeatedly while riding.

  • Do not ride if there is visible damage, overheating, smoke, burning smell, or water exposure.

  • Do not open sealed electrical components.

  • Do not work on wiring while the bike is powered on or charging.

This issue means the bike is unexpectedly losing power while riding.

The issue may involve:

Possible causes include:

  • damage to the battery, display, or controller

  • disconnected or damaged cable between the battery and controller

  • worn cable

  • broken connector

  • open circuit

  • damaged front or rear light cable

  • short circuit


Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1 – Check the Display Behaviour During Shutdown

When the bike shuts down, pay close attention to the display screen.

Check whether the normal shutdown logo appears on the display.

If yes

Continue to Step 2.

If no

Continue to Step 3.

If the issue clears

Monitor the bike during future rides.

If the issue remains

Continue to the next step.


Step 2 – Normal Shutdown Logo Appears

If the normal shutdown logo appears during the shutdown event, the display may be involved.

Restart the bike and test ride carefully in a safe area.

If yes

If the bike shuts off again:

  • please contact our support team with the photos/videos listed below so we can review the next step

If no

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue clears

The shutdown may have been temporary.

If the issue remains

Contact support.


Step 3 – Check for E46 or E47 Error Codes

Check whether:

  • E46

  • E47

appears during or before the shutdown.

If yes

Continue to Step 4.

If no

Continue to Step 5.

If the issue clears

Monitor the bike during future rides.

If the issue remains

Continue to the next step.


E46 or E47 may indicate an issue involving the light harness.

Check for:

  • visible cable damage

  • pinched wiring

  • disconnected visible connectors

  • impact damage near front or rear lights

Only inspect accessible external areas.

Do not open sealed electrical components.

If yes

If visible damage is found:

  • stop riding the bike

  • contact support with photos of the damaged area

If no

Continue to Step 5.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a temporary light harness connection issue.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 5.


Step 5 – Inspect the Battery and Controller Connection Area

Power the bike off before continuing.

Inspect accessible external areas around:

  • the battery connection

  • battery terminal area

  • visible controller cable routing

Check for:

  • loose visible connectors

  • dirt or debris

  • visible cable wear

  • bent pins

  • corrosion

  • water exposure

  • impact damage

If safe to do so:

  • disconnect and reconnect accessible external battery connections

  • clean accessible connection areas carefully

  • reinstall the battery securely

Then power the bike back on and retest.

If yes

If visible damage or corrosion is found:

  • stop riding the bike

  • contact support with photos/videos listed below

If no

Continue to Step 6.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by a loose or contaminated connection.

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue remains

Step 6 – Test the Bike Again

After reconnecting and reinstalling the battery:

  • power the bike on

  • confirm the display powers on normally

  • confirm the motor engages

  • carefully test ride in a safe area

If yes

If the bike shuts off again:

  • continue to Step 7

If no

Continue monitoring the bike.

If the issue clears

The issue may have been caused by an intermittent battery or connection issue.

If the issue remains

Continue to Step 7.


Step 7 – Contact Support

If the bike continues shutting off while riding after completing the checks above:

  • stop riding the bike

  • do not continue troubleshooting internal electrical components

  • battery

  • internal wiring
