What This Error Means
The W125 error means the E-Shifter has lost communication with the ECU.
This may happen because:
communication between the E-Shifter and ECU has been interrupted
the E-Shifter power harness may be damaged
there may be a worn cable, damaged connector, or internal open circuit
Possible Causes
Possible causes include:
communication issue between the E-Shifter and ECU
damaged E-Shifter power harness
worn cable
damaged connector
internal open circuit
damaged E-Shifter
Troubleshooting Steps
Step 1 – Inspect Accessible E-Shifter Areas and Update the ECU Software
Disconnect the bike from charging if connected.
Inspect accessible E-Shifter areas for:
obvious visible damage
loose or visibly disconnected accessible connectors
dirt or contamination around accessible connector areas
If safe to do so:
carefully clean accessible connector areas
do not force connectors
do not open sealed electrical components
Then open the Aventon app and check for available ECU software updates.
If updates are available:
update the ECU software to the latest version using the Aventon app
keep the bike powered on during the update process
do not disconnect the app during updates
Restart the bike after the update.
If yes
If visible damage is found on accessible components:
continue to Step 2
If no
If there is no visible damage:
continue to Step 3
If the issue clears
The issue may have been caused by a temporary communication or software issue.
Continue monitoring the bike during normal use.
If the issue remains
Continue to Step 2 or Step 3 depending on what you found during inspection.
Step 2 – Check for Visible Damage to the E-Shifter or E-Shifter Power Harness
Inspect the accessible E-Shifter area and visible wiring for obvious damage.
Check for:
damaged outer cable covering
obvious connector damage
visible wear or impact damage
Do not disconnect internal wiring or open sealed components.
If yes
If there is visible damage to the E-Shifter or E-Shifter power harness:
stop using the E-Shifter system
please contact our support team with the photos and videos listed below so we can review the next step
If no
If there is no visible damage:
continue to Step 3
If the issue clears
If the issue clears after inspection and restarting:
continue monitoring the bike during normal use
If the issue remains
Continue to Step 3.
Step 3 – Check Whether the Issue Persists
Restart the bike and test the E-Shifter system again.
Check whether:
the E-Shifter responds correctly
the W125 error remains active
shifting works consistently
If yes
If the W125 error remains or the E-Shifter still disconnects:
stop using the E-Shifter system
please contact our support team with the photos and videos listed below so we can review the next step
If no
If the W125 error no longer appears:
