Kaabo Urban – Charging Failure TroubleshootingUpdated 15 hours ago

This article explains how to troubleshoot charging issues on the Kaabo Urban.

Use this article if:

  • The scooter will not charge
  • The charger stays green
  • The charger flashes red and green
  • The scooter powers on but does not charge
  • Charging only works intermittently
  • The charger appears to stop charging unexpectedly

Before You Start

Please prepare the following before troubleshooting:

  • Your order number
  • A clear photo or video of the issue
  • A photo of the charger label
  • A photo of the charging port
  • A video showing charger light behaviour
  • Confirmation of:
    • whether the scooter powers on
    • whether the battery charges
    • whether the charger light changes colour
    • whether the issue started after:
      • riding
      • charging
      • storage
      • transport
      • rain or water exposure
      • crash or impact
      • modification
      • third-party repair

Important Safety Warnings

  • Do not continue charging if there is smoke, overheating, burning smell, melted connectors, or visible wiring damage.
  • Do not work on wiring while the scooter is powered on or connected to the charger.
  • Do not force connectors together.
  • Do not open sealed battery components.
  • Stop and contact support if you are unsure about any step.

Issue: Scooter Will Not Charge and Charger Stays Green

What This Issue Means

A charger remaining green while connected may indicate:

  • Incorrect display voltage settings
  • Incorrect charger type
  • Faulty charger
  • Faulty charging port
  • Loose charging port wiring
  • Battery fault
  • Controller fault
  • Battery management system (BMS) fault

Step 1 – Check the display voltage setting

  1. Power on the scooter.
  2. Unlock the display.
  3. Long press the M button.
  4. Enter password: 1500
  5. Open the P settings menu.
  6. Locate parameter P08.
  7. Check the voltage setting.

Correct voltage setting for Kaabo Urban

The Kaabo Urban is a:

  • 48V scooter

P08 must be set to:

  • 48V

If P08 is incorrectly set to 60V or 72V

Correct the setting back to 48V and test charging again.

If charging starts working normally

The issue was caused by incorrect voltage settings.

If the issue remains after correcting the setting

Inspect the charger and charging port.

Step 2 – Check the charger

Inspect the charger information

Confirm:

  • the charger model matches the scooter
  • the charger is the correct factory specification
  • the charger is not a third-party incompatible charger

If the charger is incorrect or incompatible

Replace it with the correct Kaabo Urban charger.

If the charger appears correct

Inspect the charger output connector.

Inspect the charger output connector

Check the charger output pins for:

  • bent pins
  • oxidation
  • contamination
  • burn marks
  • looseness

If oxidation or contamination is found

Clean the connector using electrical contact cleaner.

If pins are bent or damaged

Replace the charger.

If the connector appears normal

Measure the charger voltage output.

Measure charger output voltage

  1. Use a multimeter set to DC voltage.
  2. Use the 200V range.
  3. Measure between ports 1 and 2 of the charger output connector.

Expected charger output

Normal output should be approximately:

  • 54.6V

If there is no voltage output

The charger is faulty and requires replacement.

If voltage output is abnormally low

For example:

  • 20V–30V output

The battery may require further inspection.

Please contact support.

If charger voltage output is normal

Inspect the charging port and charging port wiring.

Step 3 – Inspect the charging port

Check the charging socket

Inspect the charging port for:

  • oxidation
  • burn marks
  • melted plastic
  • loose internal pins

If oxidation or burn marks are found

Replace the charging port.

If the charging socket appears normal

Inspect the charging port wiring.

Inspect charging port wiring

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
  2. Inspect the charging port wiring.
  3. Check whether:
    • red and black wires are securely connected
    • wiring is connected correctly
    • insulation is damaged
    • wiring is loose

Correct wiring orientation

  • Red wire → pin 1
  • Black wire → pin 2

If loose or incorrect wiring is found

Reconnect or repair the wiring correctly.

Professional repair is recommended.

If damaged insulation or wiring is found

Replace the charging port assembly.

If wiring appears normal

Inspect the XT30 charging connector.

Inspect the XT30 connector

  1. Locate the XT30 connector between the charging port and battery.
  2. Check whether:
    • the connector is fully inserted
    • the connector is loose
    • pins are oxidised
    • pins are burnt

If the XT30 connector is loose

Reconnect it securely and test charging again.

If oxidation or burn marks are found

Replace the affected connector or charging port.

Professional repair is recommended.

If charging only works when pressure is applied to the charger

Replace the charging port.

Issue: Charger Flashes Red and Green When Connected

What This Issue Means

Flashing red and green charging lights may indicate:

  • Charging port short circuit
  • Damaged charging port wiring
  • Controller fault
  • Battery BMS fault
  • Charger fault

Step 1 – Inspect charging port wiring

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
  2. Inspect charging port wiring for:
    • broken insulation
    • short circuits
    • exposed wiring
    • melted wiring

If damaged wiring is found

Replace the charging port assembly.

If no visible damage is found

Test the battery separately.

Step 2 – Test the battery separately

  1. Remove the battery from the scooter.
  2. Connect the charger directly to the battery.
  3. Observe charger light behaviour.

If charging works normally when connected directly to the battery

The controller may be faulty.

Please contact support.

If the charger still flashes red and green when connected directly to the battery

The battery BMS may be faulty.

Please contact support regarding battery replacement.

If the charger flashes or remains off even when disconnected from the battery

The charger is faulty and requires replacement.

When To Contact Support

Please contact support if:

  • The issue remains after troubleshooting
  • The charger overheats
  • The charging port is melted or burnt
  • There is smoke or burning smell
