Dashboard controls
- Long press the power button to turn the device on or off
- Short press once for gear switch
- Short press twice for light switch
- Short press three times for speed unit switch
- Short press five times to enter pedestrian mode
Pedestrian mode
- Entered by short pressing the button 5 times
- Speed is limited to 6 km/h
- Short press again to exit this mode
Riding mode display
- E-SAVE lights up: E-save mode
- E-SAVE off: Sport mode
- E-SAVE flashing: Custom mode (in app)
SETTING UP THE SCOOTER
Body assembly
- Secure the scooter neck tube and open the kickstand.
- Connect the handlebar to the main line connector of the vertical tube and install the handlebar to the vertical tube.
- Confirm that the device will power on and off after assembly.
- Lock the screws on both sides alternately with the hexagon wrench from the package.
Handlebar screw tightening torque:
- 4–5 N·m
Folding
- Confirm that the kick scooter is powered off.
- Hold the vertical tube.
- Open the folding wrench.
- Align it to the position of the mudguard hook.
- Hook the hook under the dashboard to the rear end of the body.
- Press the buckle button on the mudguard when opening.
- After the hook under the dashboard is separated from the folding buckle, straighten the vertical tube to lock the folded plate.
- Turn the folding wrench back.
Handling
- Fold the scooter, then hold the standpipe with one hand or both hands before transport.
CHARGING
Charger connection
- First open the charging port
- Plug the charging plug into the body charging port
- Finally connect the power supply to charge
- After charging is complete, fasten the charging port cover to prevent water intake
Charging cautions
- Do not charge when the charging port, charger, or power socket is wet
- Turn off the power before charging
- Use only the original charger supplied by NIU
- Do not use other charger types
- Do not charge or continue using the battery if the battery is damaged or flooded
- Close the interior cover after charging or when not charging
- Do not charge outdoors
- Do not ride while charging
PARKING
- Please lower the kickstand after using and park the vehicle
- Please raise the kickstand before using
FAST LOCKING
How to lock
- Connect the electric scooter to the installed app of NIU Technologies via Bluetooth and activate the fast locking function in the app.
- Long press the On/Off button for 5 seconds to lock the scooter.
- The lock icon is displayed on the meter.
- The manual also shows alarm when locking and fast flashing during locking.
How to unlock
- Long press the On/Off button for 2 seconds to start the scooter.
- Click the Unlock button on the app interface to unlock the scooter connected to the app.
DOWNLOADING THE APP / ACTIVATION
- Scan the QR code and install the NIU E-Scooter App
- Bind and activate the scooter according to the prompts
- After installing the app, log in and register
- Long press the button to power it up and the Bluetooth icon starts flashing
- In the app, tap Me > Device Binding > Bind with Bluetooth
- The scooter beeps when Bluetooth connects successfully
- The Bluetooth icon stops flashing and stays on after successful connection
- Activate the scooter according to the prompts in the app and complete the riding safety learning content
Important app notes
- Your phone needs:
- Bluetooth 4.2 or above
- iOS 9.0 or above
- Android 5.0 or above
- After activating the vehicle owner mode, the scooter will be locked in E-SAVE mode
- This function is intended to limit riding speed in some urban city roads or to comply with local speed regulations
- After 50 km, the scooter will loosen up so it can reach higher mode speed features available in the app
- The account paired with Bluetooth for the first time is the vehicle owner
- If the account connection changes, the Bluetooth needs to be reset
- If changing the NIU account, the original owner should unbind the vehicle in advance
BEFORE RIDING
Before riding:
- Ensure the steering system and folding system are working properly and components are tightly secured
- Check whether the wheel axle is fastened to the body so the wheel rotates normally and the brake system works normally
- Check tyre pressure before riding
- Recommended tyre pressure: 45–50 psi
- Check tyre and brake pad wear
- If wear is serious and replacement is needed, contact the dealer in time
RIDING THE SCOOTER
- Turn on the power and check the power indicator.
- Stand on the pedal with one foot and push back with the other foot.
- When the scooter is sliding, stand on the pedal with both feet stable and gently press the throttle twistgrip.
- The speed above 4 km/h starts the throttle.
- Release the throttle twistgrip and use energy recovery to decelerate.
- Emergency braking requires powerful grip on both sides of the brake levers.
- The body should lean slightly to the direction of turning and the handlebar should be turned slowly.
Additional riding notes
- The risk of fall injuries is present during practice
- Wear a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards while riding
- The deceleration strength through energy recovery can be adjusted within the app
WARNINGS
The manual includes these riding warnings:
- Do not ride in the drive lane of public roads, motorways, or highways
- Do not ride in the rain
- Riding distance may be shortened in wet weather, so drive carefully
- Do not ride where the water depth is over the pedal or hub motor
- Always keep your hands on the handlebar when driving
- Do not ride over speed bumps or rough roads at high speed
- Do not ride with more than one person, and do not carry children in arms
- Do not accelerate downhill
- It is forbidden to ride up and down stairs and over obstacles by jumping
- Do not drive indoors
- It is forbidden to turn the handlebar abruptly at high speed
- Please avoid obstacles and be ready to stop
- Do not hang heavy objects such as backpacks on the handlebar
- Do not use the throttle when walking beside the kick scooter
- Do not touch the disc brake or wheel hub motor after use to avoid burns
- Avoid riding in the darkness
Additional safety warnings
- Traffic conditions in the city vary, and it is recommended to avoid obstacle jumps
- Reduce speed and prepare to stop when approaching pedestrians or cyclists
- Maintain a safe distance from motor vehicles
- In all cases, take care of yourself and others
- Do not delete the use of the vehicle
- This vehicle is not intended for acrobatic use
- Caution: the brake may become hot in use. Do not touch after use.
- Do not modify or transform the vehicle, including the steering tube, folding mechanism, and rear brake
- The self-folded rear wheel is for one-wheel push when folding. These parts need periodic checking.
- Do not make modifications that are not noted in the instructions

MAINTENANCE AND CARE
Vehicle cleaning
- Wipe the main frame with a soft wet cloth
- If stains are hard to clean, use toothpaste and a toothbrush repeatedly, then wipe with a soft cloth
- Do not clean the scooter with alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, or other corrosive and volatile solvents
- Do not spray the scooter with pressure water or direct flushing
- Before cleaning, make sure the scooter is powered off, the charging plug is removed, and the charging port has been buckled tightly, otherwise electric injury or major fault may occur
Vehicle storage
- Accessories and additional items not approved by the manufacturer shall not be used
- Store the device in a well-lit, stable, well-ventilated, and dry place
- Prolonged exposure to UV rays, rain, and the elements may damage enclosure materials, so store indoors when not in use
- For long-term storage, keep the battery power between 30% and 70%
- Recharge the battery every two months
- Fully charge before storage or before using after long-term storage
- If abnormal sound or noise is heard during use, stop riding and solve the problem before continuing
- If you notice a problem with the battery pack, do not charge by yourself and contact customer service
Battery warnings
- The device contains batteries which can only be repaired by qualified persons
- Use only the charger with this reference: PLI420-E250A54; otherwise battery failure, fire, or explosion may occur
- Do not touch the battery contacts and do not open or expose the shell
- Do not stop using the device if it has received violent crash, severe vibration, or water entry, because it may damage the battery and cause fire risk
- It is strongly forbidden to immerse the battery and the vehicle body in water or into a fire
- Do not ride the scooter if the suspension or body is deformed due to strong force
- Please check tyre pressure before riding, if the tyre is over-inflated, there is a risk of poor road grip
Bearing maintenance
- Check the vehicle’s status regularly
- If there is abnormal bearing sound, or abnormal vibration, or bearing-related issues, stop riding and contact professional maintenance personnel
- Do not try to repair by yourself
- Do not touch the disc brake after use because it may become hot
Disc brake debugging
If the disc brake is too tight:
- Loosen fixing nut
- Use a wrench to loosen the brake arm lock
- Turn the brake cable adjuster to shorten the cable
- Turn the fixing nut clockwise to confirm the brake force and complete the adjustment
If the disc brake is too loose:
- Loosen fixing nut
- Use a wrench to loosen the brake arm lock
- Turn the brake cable adjuster to lengthen the cable
- Turn the fixing nut clockwise to confirm the braking force and complete the adjustment
Changing brake pads
- Completely loosen the brake cable and remove the brake caliper from the vehicle body with a 5 mm hexagon wrench
- Tilt the caliper body and remove it
- Remove the old brake pads and clean the brake piston with a clean cloth
- Put the new brake pads into the body through the gap of the brake discs
- Install the caliper to the vehicle body, rotate the wheel while adjusting as needed
Handlebar shaking debugging
- Check whether the vertical tube screws are loose
- If yes, fasten the standpipe screws first, then fasten the two screws at the folding mechanism with a 6 mm hexagon wrench
Use of the extension nozzle
- If your valve nozzle is short and it is inconvenient to inflate, use the extension nozzle to connect the valve and inflate
- First remove the tyre valve and inner tube inflation nozzle cap, then connect the extension nozzle to the inflation valve and inflate after tightening it
